SHALOM COLLEGE COAT OF ARMS

The CELTIC CROSS, made up of concentric circles touching the four projecting arms, represents Jesus Christ, the essence of the whole school – its purpose and community.

The SHIELD of faith, and THE SWORD of the spirit reflect the words of St Paul. At all times carry faith as a shield, for with it you will be able to put out all the burning arrows shot by the evil one. Accept salvation as a helmet and the Word of God as the sword which the spirit gives you. (Ephesians 6:16-17)

The OPEN BOOK superimposed over the sword is a book of knowledge. It indicates that the peace of Shalom is the peace achieved by learning and knowledge, rather than a peace achieved by using the instruments of war.

The ALPHA and the OMEGA, first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, visible on the open book are symbols of God. “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God Almighty, who is, who was and who is to come. (Revelations 1:8) They indicate that the learning should be a seeking to know God.

The CHEVRON (white inverted V) signifies a rafter or supporting beam of a building. It represents both support and shelter – the support of an institution and the shelter it provides to its members.

The BANNER is the motto of the college. It translates as Peace. The peace of Jesus’ words “My peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. I do not give it as the world does.” (John 14:27)

The COLOURS are the college colours of red, black and white.
