The staff of the four local Catholic schools recently gathered for a Mass to celebrate the start of the school year. 

As is the usual custom at this mass, awards were given to staff who have devoted significant time to Catholic Education. 

MRS MARY TAYLOR - 20 YEARS SERVICE

Mary commenced her teaching career with Department of Education in 1983 and joined Catholic Education in 1991 at St Therese's Monto before moving to St Patrick's, Bundaberg in 1995.  In 1998 Mary was appointed Acting Assistant to the Principal - Religious Education for latter part of that year.   2000 saw Mary appointed as Assistant to the Principal Religious Education at St Patrick's, a position she continued with until 2005 when she was appointed to Shalom College.  Mary has continued at the College since that time serving as Senior Religion Coordinator and Acting Assistant to the Principal - Ministry.  With the reorganisation of Pastoral Care groups  at Shalom, Mary assumed the position of Lingiari House Coordinator in January 2011.

MR DAVID GAHAN – 20 YEARS SERVICE

David commenced his teaching career at Sacred Heart, Yeppoon in 1991 and moved to St John's, Walkerston in 1992.  He then went on to complete inland service at Our Lady's Longreach from 1994 to 1996.  In 1997 he moved to St Mary's Bundaberg and served as Acting Assistant to the Principal Religious Education in 2004 and 2005. He commenced as Assistant to the Principal Religious Education at St Mary’s in 2006, a position he held until he joined Shalom College at the beginning of 2010.

MR CHRIS ROELOFS – 20 YEARS SERVICE
Chris commenced his teaching career in 1991 at Chanel College, Gladstone. He was appointed Acting Sports Coordinator there in 1995 and Year 8 Coordinator in 1996.  At the start of 1998 Chris moved to Shalom College to take up a position as Teacher - House Patron. The following year he became Year 9 Coordinator. In 2004 he was appointed Year 8 Coordinator, which was re-named  Year 8 Pastoral Coordinator in 2008. Again with the reorganisation of PC groups, Chris assumed the role of Walsh House Coordinator in January 2011.
