Communities of Practice

6 May 2026

Last Friday, our school trialled a new approach to strengthening teaching and learning across our College.

Students finished at 1:30pm, allowing our staff to come together in Communities of Practice - dedicated time for teachers to collaborate, reflect, and build their expertise using evidence-based teaching strategies.

Throughout the afternoon, teachers worked in professional learning teams, sharing classroom experiences, exploring proven instructional techniques, and planning how to best support every student’s learning and growth.

Importantly, students who chose to remain on campus were well-supported, engaging in quiet study and indoor/outdoor activities in a supervised environment.
We know that the most significant in-school factor influencing student success is the quality of teaching. By investing in our teachers in this way, we are directly investing in better outcomes for every student in every classroom at Shalom.

We’re extremely proud of the professionalism and commitment our staff showed, and we look forward to continuing this work as we strive to provide the best learning experiences for our students.
