Update (as of 8:40pm, 10/03/2026)
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Firstly, thank you for your patience and support as we navigate the current situation. In school, your child(ren) have been amazing this week.
I am writing to confirm that Shalom College will be open tomorrow (Wednesday 11 March) for those students who are able to attend. Arrangements are in place to provide supervision and have students engage in learning within the school. Some varied learning experiences may occur during the day due to teachers not being able to attend school.
As parents of students in Year 7 and 9 may realise, tomorrow is due to be the first day of NAPLAN. The intention is that this program will still occur, so please ensure your child has a fully charged device and/or charger with them. For those unable to attend, a catch up session will be arranged in due course.
The Tuckshop is also operating at a limited capacity, due to staffing shortages, and we encourage students to bring their own lunch to school, if possible.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to place safety first and only travel if conditions allow. Families affected by road closures, floodwater, or emergency circumstances should not attempt travel to any school site. Catholic Education continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as conditions evolve.
Stay safe, well and pray for all those who may be affected by the current situation.
Kind regards,
Dean Wearmouth
Principal
Update (as of 12:30pm, 10/03/2026)
Dear families, We have just been advised that bus companies will commence early pick-up of students from 12.30pm. Therefore, to ensure the safety of students, it is important that parents contact the school as soon as possible to confirm if your child/ren has permission to travel home by bus this afternoon at an earlier time. Please contact the school via email 520_absentees@rok.catholic.edu.com.au or phone 41558111 and also sms your child/ren with permission so they can show staff.
Students will not be permitted to travel by bus at an earlier time unless prior confirmation from parents has been received. Students unable to travel home by bus at an earlier time, will remain at school under supervision until they are collected by parents.
If you get this message after 12.45pm today then you will need to make other arrangements to pick your child up at the end of the school day at 3.00pm.
Kind regards,

Update (as of 11:25am 10/03/2026)
Dear families,
We have been advised by the Bundaberg Local Disaster Management Committee that due to flooding, the Burnett Bridge and Tallon Bridge will close to traffic at 3.00pm. Impacted families are asked to collect their children as early as possible so to avoid expected traffic congestion. Students will need to be signed out via the school/college office.
Supervised classes will continue for all other students for the remainder of the school day.
We have also been advised that bus schedules for all students may be impacted. The usual afternoon bus schedules may be brought forward. We will communicate any change of bus schedules to parents as soon as it is made available.
Kind regards,
Mr Dean Wearmouth
Principal
